Henry as a Dinosaur

He kinda reminds me of Barney. Oh, boy. Thankfully he is blissfully ignorant. :) These are some of the pictures I didn't order. We still think they're cute. Thought we'd share.

Pictures of the Fires

My cousin Aimee send the best emails. She just sent one with several pictures of the fires in Southern California. Here are the ones I found most provocative.

From Aimee

A cabbie picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and notices that the very handsome cab driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring.
He replies: "I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you."
She answers, "My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive."
"Well, It's always been a fantasy of mine to be kissed by a nun."
She responds, "Well, let's see what we can do about that:
1) you have to be single and
2) you must be Catholic."
The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I'm single and Catholic!"
"Ok", the nun says. "Pull into the next alley."
The nun fulfills the cab driver's fantasy with an amazing kiss. When they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.
"My dear child!" said the nun, "Why are you crying?"
"Forgive me, but I have sinned. I lied and I must confess, I'm married andI'm Jewish."
The nun says, "That's ok. My name's Kevin and I'm going to a Halloween party."

Happy Halloween!

My Auntie Anne, Megan, and Jack gave Henry this costume for Halloween. Henry loves it and couldn't wait to pose for a picture (well a few skittles helped-Note green on face). He even growled and made scary faces. Mostly he just ran all over the place.

Thank you for thinking of us.

Dwight and Maurice

Here are the Pumpkins Dave and I carved last week. Dave calls them Dwight and Maurice. Dwight and Maurice are now becoming science projects on our front porch. Don't worry...I'll get some pics. :)

Nash's Pumpkin Farm

Henry went with his Daycare to Nash's Pumpkin Farm. Toni sat all of the children (one at a time) in the patch and got some shots. Henry brought home a little pumpkin too

Hawaiian Ginger

We have a new door color. It's called Hawaiian Ginger by Behr. We hired Bobby from a local high school to help us finish up some projects. He was such a help. We are now 75% done with painting. Now just to figure out the trim color. Dave and I both like the middle paint chip called Starry Night by Ralph Lauren. Only problem is is that they only make that paint in interior only. A guy at Home Depot tried to match it, but it came out very wrong. We like it because it is dark, but with some red in it. This help to blend our roof with our new house color. The previous home owners had a thing for red. Everything used to be red (house, trim, roof, and dirt). Now we just have the red roof, red dirt and now a red front door so things don't look too off balance.

Our Prayers go out to Joan and Reed

Joan and Reed K. lost their home in Rancho Santa Fe this week. Joan is a relative by marriage (my grandmother married her father). Despite this tragic lost they are coping amazingly well. I have been thinking about them and their situation all week. Yesterday I saw some photos on Yahoo and came across a picture of what I remember as their home. It has been over 10 years since I was there, but this was the shape of their home and the pool looks familiar. This may or may not be it. I'm still waiting on a reply from Lulu. Whoever owned this home, we feel for you.
This photo was taken by Chris Carlson of the AP.

Bell Hop OR Monkey on a Grinder?-You Decide

Henry loves to put the lid to his pop beads on his head. Dave and I were trying to figure out what he looks like. What do you think?

Mommy Brain

So yesterday I thought it would be fun if Henry and I baked together. I decided to make some oatmeal bars so I measured out the oatmeal into a bowl and set it aside. Then we creamed the butter and sugars...Henry loved the mixer. I added some nuts and raisins and then poured the mixture into the pan and then "threw it in the oven for baby and me". As I was cleaning up/ fighting Henry for the mixer, I saw the big bowl of oatmeal, you know the MAIN ingredient in the bars. So, I whip the pan out of the oven and scooped all of the half melted contents back into the bowl and tossed in the oatmeal. It went back in and I just said a little prayer. Henry found a paint brush on the counter and this is where he thought it went.

Twenty-Nine

Number of building blocks I found under the couch? No.
Number of dollars in my checking? No, that's cents.
Number of hours in a day? I wish.
Number of unfinished projects around the house? Close.
My age? No, that's 30 and holding.

Twenty-Nine was the number of patients I saw last Thursday!

It took me this long to post it because I'm still recovering. Now I need twenty-nine hours of sleep and possibly twenty-nine times the liability coverage :).

Goodnight.

Mt Shasta

This was a neat picture I took a couple of years ago.

Welcome Fall

This is an art project Henry and I finished today. Also, I got a shot of our fishing gnome. Hope he's not cold :).

Devo Revisited

As I was taking these pictures I was huming to the tune of "Whip it".

Brokeback-Little People?

Dave said that when we walked in and saw Farmer Jed and Michael in the most precarious of positions in the barn.

Yup

She Passed!

My 1991 Jetta passed a smog test today. Old girl has almost 200K miles and is still running strong.
Farfegnugen!

Distinctly Dustin

I saw a picture of the built in cabinetry Kenny put in for Dustin on her blog. Dustin sent me an email telling me they were called Distinctions cabinets by Mills Pride and sent me a link to their website: http://www.distinctionscabinetry.com/
Apparently, they have no frills, but are a decent cabinet.

I put off looking into getting these cabinets for awhile because the weather was nice and we were focusing on outdoor projects. So, eventually I got to this and boy what a challenge it has been. First, we go to our local Home Depot and walk in expecting to find them, get prices, and place an order. Did this happen?....Can things ever be easy?....Nope.

So, the cabinet guy looks at us with a crazy look and say that he has never heard of Distinctions, and that the Mills Pride line was being phased out. Okay, so then we tried the 1800 number on the website and the operator told us she could not tell us the closest stores that sold their product. Why? Wouldn't you think they'd want to sell more? Do they not offer stock options at this joint?

Then, on a mission, we called several HD stores all over the north and central state and Oregon...no luck. And, the response was always filled with the same confusion. My mom (yes, we got helpers-Thanks Mom) finally got a hold of a store near her and got the employee to look at http://www.distinctionscabinetry.com/. This nice man called them himself and got someone who told him of a few stores that would carry them on the West Coast in late 11/07.

We went to Fresno on a trip and while we were their we decided to stop in and talk with this HD employee. We thought he might be able to give prices (just a guesstimate) and ask him if we could have a promotion offered currently on these cabinets honored when they arrived in 11/07 (it was 10% off and some gift cards). He couldn't help us with that, but he showed us Mills Pride's old line. We liked the Distinctions better, so we decided to press on.

I got home and called MP once again and spoke with one operator who said that Distinctions would not be coming to the West Coast HDs at all. She even put me on hold to talk to a manager. I hung up and decided to call back and ask if any other non-Home Depot stores carried their line and I got a woman who told me the West Coast HD stores and dates who would carry these. I quickly got her name, date of birth, blood type, pets name :) and extension and went to work again.

I called the Eugene, Oregon store (after calling other stores she'd mentioned and getting nowhere) and spoke with someone in the cabinet department. Same drill. So I gave him Debbie's info. He called me back and I think he said something to the fact that I had, "sent shock waves through their organization". Apparently no one has been trained and it was news to them. He said he had no idea where they would even put the display since they are overstocked as is. I still need to ask if he'll honor the promotion. Dave and I think that they should just comp us a whole set up since we have let a big part of the West Coast know what's coming down the pike...in one month!

To make a long story short-ha! We like Wadsworth Bay and plan to put these in several rooms (kitchen, dining room and an office) since this house seriously lacks storage space.

Snapshots of a Crime

Henry loves to put anything on his head and run around. It is so funny. He'll put hats, wash cloths, toys, plastic bowls, and clothing (my under ware--eek!). A couple of weekends ago he grabbed his daddy's hat and ran all around. Then when Daddy came to get his hat this is what our little trouble maker did.

Dancing with the Birds?

Maybe Dave needs lessons from Snowball?

Hooray!

Finally. We did it. We joined the ranks of all of our fellow cyber monkeys out there. Just a little insomnia and nothing on TV and voila...a blog was born. I'm excited, I finally got motivated.

When I told Henry we started a family blog this was his reaction. Hehehehe.
